From the recording A Light in the Darkness

Days Gone By is a reflection on my younger days being with cherished friends in the great outdoors. "Forest pine nights give way to mist-dampened dawn" after a night of camping on an oft-visited mountain top, "so far above the river, moon in hand". On sunny days, we'd hike or play frisbee in the park, and when the rains came, we'd seek shelter in each other's friendship. With memories like these, Days Gone By never disappear!

Lyrics

Days Gone By

Let me tell you about the world in days gone by
deep woods streams lead to an open sky
forest pine nights give way to mist dampened dawn
the cool earth’s touch and life made me strong

Time was we’d carry on all night long
Howl at the moon ‘til the dawn of day
turn it up and start all over again
revel in the sun when it shone our way

And when the rains came we’d know
just where it is that we’d want to go
to find shelter from the storm
friends and a little love keeping us warm
friends and a little love keeping us warm

Standing in the sun feeling a little high
frizbee tossing, Dam days, cool nights go by
camping at the Nose, guitar in my hand
soul flying, free man

Let me tell about a trail to a mountain top
so far above the river – moon in hand
guitar playing, my soul flies free
how much better could it ever be?
how much better could it ever be?

Let me tell you ‘bout the world in days gone by
deep woods streams, bright skies so fair
time flies, it fades, it dies
but days long gone never disappear
days long gone never disappear
days long gone never disappear
days long gone never disappear

And when the rains came we’d know
just where it is that we’d want to go
to find shelter from the storm
friends and a little love keeping us warm
friends and a little love keeping us warm

Cold winds blow, the flames would grow
day turns to night, meet the evening aglow
we’d take shelter from the storm
friends and a little love keepin’ us warm
friends and a little love keepin’ us warm
